The mechanism to produce the cuckoo call has been in use since the middle of the 18th century and has remained almost without variation.

Care and Maintenance of your Cuckoo Clock 

To keep your cuckoo clock looking bright and attractive requires only a simple cleaning practice. Use a soft, dry paintbrush or static cloth for dusting. Please do not use water or chemicals anywhere on the clock, as it can damage the wood and varnish.

For mechanical Cuckoo Clock movements

Do not use oil or spray ANY of the internal mechanism. This can severely damage the working parts. You can use compressed air to remove dust internally. Do not get too close to the parts.
